Nestled among more than one hundred spectacular lakes, Land O' Lakes holds true to its name. Our beautiful community provides a perfect blend of leisurely, country living with all the convenience and necessities usually found in a metropolitan area. Land O' Lakes, an unincorporated community, is located north of Tampa on Highway 41, in sub-tropical central Florida. It's a choice suburb of the Tampa Metropolitan area, offering city workers and their families an escape to clean country living. There are several private air fields in the area and the world famous Tampa International Airport is just 25 minutes away. Corporate institutions have found Land O' Lakes to be a favorable location as illustrated by the Saddle Brook Corporate Center, just to the east of Land O' Lakes. Land O' Lakes also has Pasco County government offices, a Pasco County School Board Administration, and fire, emergency and law enforcement agencies.
Education plays a major role in the quality of life in Land O' Lakes. The area boasts a large modern high school which offers academic and vocational programs on a 100 acre campus with an activity center and lighted athletic park. There are three elementary schools, a modern junior high school, and other private schools as well. Other educational opportunities include the University of South Florida, 15 minutes away; St. Leo College, 16 minutes away; the University of Tampa, 25 minutes away; Pasco-Hernando Community College, located in town; and Hillsborough Community College, 20 minutes away.
Land O' Lakes residents have easy access to large medical complexes, including a Veterans' Administrated Hospital and the medical school at the University of South Florida.
Regional attractions include Busch Gardens, Adventure Island, the Florida Aquarium, and Lowry Park Zoo. Walt Disney World is only a 90 minute drive from Land O' Lakes. Professional sports include The Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team, Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team, Tampa Bay Mutiny Soccer Club, horse and drag racing, and spring training by major league baseball teams.
The Central Chamber of Commerce puts on the The Land O' Lakes Flapjack Festival in November and serves FREE Flapjacks on Saturday from 8am -10am. The Festival is held on the Land O' Lakes Community Center property on Highway 41 in the heart of Pasco. It began 25 years ago, in 1977, when a group of community clubs got together to put on an event that would provide fun, food and entertainment for the entire community. The FREE flapjacks were offered for the first time in 1983 and the Land O' Lakes Butter Company of Minnesota supplied the butter that year and every year since. Since those small beginnings the festival has grown every year to the point where it has become not only the biggest event in the community, but an event that attracts visitors from surrounding counties and across the country.
Local residents have come to know that the change of seasons in Land O' Lakes - from a long and sultry summer to a cool, tropical autumn - is evident when the scent of fall is in the air. It smells like Flapjacks. And it's something to flip over!
